Beginneers Section - Vertical Landscape

Be_01 score 6.5 Nice Contrast - Focal Point could have been better framed as it is unclear what the FP is.
Nicely composed Sunrise/SunsetLovely warm colour good depth of field using small apperture.

Be_02 Score 5.5 Too Large on the longest side at over 1500 pixels - Blues are a bit too saturated. However the reflections are nice and the focus is good.
Well composed image with plenty of interest from foreground to background. No Exif Data available.

Be_03 Score 4.5 Shooting into the sun is always difficult - The reflections in the river are very good and a nice crop to show the river and eliminate the sun & tree would also have worked better.
Nice warm Sunrise/Sunset. There is just too many tree branches which draws attention away from the lovely background.

Be_04 Score 5.5 Nice Photo - I like the colours. Pity that it was overcast but overall a nice shot.
Lovely colourful image with plenty of interest. Would benefit from a smaller apperture to create greater depth of field.

Be_05 Score 6.5 Nice use of the natural scenery - lots to look at in this shot. A little increase in saturation would eliminate the UV hase in the shot.
Nice landscape image. Good depth.

Be_06 Score 4 The light was a bit too low in this shot for it to work well. Due to the haze contrast becomes low - nicely framed, I think they were trying to use the rule of thirds here.
If image was cropped a little to lose some of the sky and foreground. Good colour on the horizon. No Exif Data.

Be_07 Score 7.5 A lovely photo from a photographer who is not an absolute beginner! Nicely shot - Well Done! (Not sure if its 100% a landscape shot - more of a woodland shot however well taken.)
Super landscape shot. Good exposure and colour. No EXIF Data.

Be_08 Score 5.5 Perfect location but nothing to really draw in the eye as a focal point - The fences or even a road could have been used as a vertical leading line as there is too much going from left to right in the shot. Slightly over-exposed but the lighting on the hills is nice.
Lovely vertical landscape with plenty of interest. Some of the sky could be cropped out.

Be_09 Score 7 Very nice shot here - great atmospheric lighting. Perhaps photoshop out the 4 posts in the foreground which would be nice as there is good colour in the bushes behind.
Nice vertical Landscape. Could be cropped a little at the bottom.end of images

Intermidate Section _Vertical Landscape

In_01 Score 5 great idea to frame using oval however it’s not clear what the subject is here, is it the oval or the view through it. Could not view this image in a larger size.

In_02 Score 7.5 Everything just about perfect in this image, colour saturation, sharpness and contrast, but my eye tends to run up and down the image continually as the v-shaped bottom portion is somewhat of a distraction. One of the best.
Good image, fits the theme, follows the rule of thirds, good subject matter, and would like to see this taken a little later on in the day the light is a bit too high in the sky

In_03 Score 6.5 Possibly the best subject among entrants in this class, but sharpness could be better. Otherwise, an excellent image, the slow shutter-speed adding to the overall effect. Nice colour scheme too!
Vertical landscape for sure, the horizon is a little too close to centre of image.
Crop the sky at the top, dodge the highlights (water) just a tad, burn the shadows (rocks to add a little definition. I love the way the light on the was captured.

In_04 Score 5 Technically perfect, but lacking in a focal point. It might have worked better as a horizontal shot.
Not really sure if the subject matter lends itself to a vertical landscape, you are left wondering what is to the right hand side. some element in the foreground is needed here such as a rock or boat perhaps. The horizon is too close to centre of image.

In_05 Score 6 Another technically perfect image, taken at one of the best locations in the south-east for sunsets! (Don't tell anyone!). After-sunset, as in this case, can sometimes be best. However, the top jet trail takes from the picture; the lower one/ones could well pass for a cloud formation.
Lovely vertical landscape, a little too dark in the foreground, wonder why 1/200 sec was use, probably handheld, would recommend getting closer to water and use reflections to add more light

In_06 Score 7 Despite this image having two focal points, it has been executed extremely well, with excellent exposure and colour saturation, and a lead-in line. It might have worked better without the two stones on the horizon.
Good vert landscaqpe, great use of rock in foreground to anchor the shot, good use of rule of thirds, nicely exposed shot. Not quite where horizon is.

In_07 Score 6.5 Possibly by far the best subject in this section, but SLIGHTLY overexposed. Composition excellent and nice cloud effects.
Fits the bill, beautiful image, a little less of the wall in foreground might improve image as would reducing exposure a little and increasing contrast. good overall image

In_08 Score 6 Difficult to know what to say about this image. Lead-in lines always add to the composition of a picture, but in this case there appears to be too much road, and its over-powering pink colour. This colour could have been de-saturated quite easily using the simplest of software. The horizon is almost central, but there's an excellent sky. The photographer should have waited till those distant walkers were much nearer or simply taken a series of shots of them at different locations on the road or track. Next time try taking the picture from the SIDE of the track.
Great use of lead in lines with the path here. The sky is really full of drama, would have waited until the people were a bit closer. Would boost the highlight in the background with selective use of dodge tool and reduce exposure by about 1/1/2 stops

Advanced Section - Vertical Landscape

Ad_01 Score 7.5 Nice image of castle, road leads you in nicely and the walker adds to the scene.
Nicely balanced photo. The bend in the road takes you into the photo and draws your eye to the castle.

Ad_02 Score 6.5 Lovely sky in this shot, but the tree in the centre doesn't do anything for it. The animals are a nice touch too.
Nice composition but just a little too much sky for me, lovely photo though.

Ad_03 Score 8 Lovely shot from the top looking down; even the pebbles are nice and sharp.
Lovely photo this. Your eye is drawn along the cliff face up the full length of the Island.

Ad_04 Score 8.5 Not much room for improvement in this shot, the water is lovely especially the waterfall area.
This is my favourite one. I like the lead in to the falls. Nice composition and lighting, lovely image.

Beginneers Section Woodland

Be 01 (Above)
Be01 Score 6.5 Nice Woodland image. Good use of rule of thirds.
Lovely Subject. Nice lighting and focus. EXIF data was unavailable. Overall a lovely shot - perhaps enhancing the yellow tones of the gorse might have added to the photo.

Be 02 (Above)

BE02 Score 5.5 Nice image. Would benefit from increasing saturation a little.
Nice image, a tad under exposed and slightly soft on focus. By enhancing the saturation and highlights it could have been improved. EXIF data was unavailable.

Be 03 (Above)
BE03 Score 6 Good lighting here and the path leads your eye into the photograph.
Slightly larger than agreed size, at 1040 pixels. Nice colour and light in the shot. EXIF data was also unavailable.

Be 04 (Above)

BE04 Score 5 Nice isolated shot of woodland. Some of the foreground could be a little sharper.
The shot is more of a flora shot than woodlands (although you can see some trees in top left). Shot could have been made better by enhancing highlights and shadows afterwards to enhance the areas in the shot. EXIF data was unavailable so could not check settings.

Be 05 (Above)

BE05 Score 5.5 Lovely woodland scene. Increasing the saturation a little would really enhance this image.
Shot looks to be suffering from hand shake - using a tripod would give a crisper shot - There are some shadows which the camera may have picked up giving a long enough shutter speed which would exaggerate any hand movement. Some increase in colour saturation and use of sharpening, might have also helped. EXIF data was unavailable so could not check settings.

Be 06 (Above)

BE06 Score 8.5 Great composition and use of slow shutter speed.
Very Nice Shot - Lovely lighting on the rock (front left) also elsewhere in the photo, dots of light add a mood to the shot. The shutter-speed of .8 of a second gives a lovely flow on the stream. Slightly oversaturated in the trees at the back.

Be 07 (Above)
BE07 Score 7.5 Brilliant perspective and symmetry. The people really show scale here.
Nice Setup of shot with nice lines. Some texture in the sky or some natural sunlight would have helped warm the photo as well as add some detail to the treetops.

Be 08 (Above)

BE08 Score 7.5 Nice woodland scene. Very nice lighting
Nice Theme and Lighting. Lovely natural setting, slight lens flare near top but overall a very nice photo.

Be 09 (Above)

BE09 Score 6.5 Lovely scene. The Sun in the background really make this shot.
Lovely use of Sun in the shot. The conifer on the right hints to the camera flash being on. EXIF data was removed so could not check settings. A crop on the sunrise would work also, to omit the distraction of the right-hand-side conifer.

Be 10 (Above)

BE10 Score 5.5 Nice shades of blue and green. No real focal point.
A lot going on the photo - perhaps too many lines which make the viewers eye jump around. Also the photo is a bit dark (might have been brightened in Picassa or Photoshop afterwards which would have helped) however focus is good.

Intermidate Section Woodland

In 01 (above)
In 01 Score 9 A number of images in the beginners section were superior to the intermediate section! This image . . . NINE MARKS. The best by far, with an excellent lead-in line. Colour saturation and exposure very good also.
Perfectly demonstrates the theme. The path leads the eye right into the shot. good composition and depth of field. Can I know where it's taken please

In 02 (above)
In 02 Score 6 The best subject among the seven entries, but badly handled. Excellent lead in lines, but sharpness quite poor. Also, the steps should be horizontal. These could be easily corrected, if you have Photoshop.
Fits the theme, Good composition, Love the way your eye is led up the steps The image is not as sharp as I'd like it to be, Possible some camera shake cause this Was this hand held and at what aperture (f stop).

In 03 (above)
In 03 Score 6 Reasonably nice scene, but nothing very special about it, due to lack of a focal point. Colour saturation could be much better, plus a little under-exposure.
Certainly fits the Theme. Good shot of a typical woodland scene. I would crop to into trees on either side and allow them to frame image.

In 04 (above)
In 04 Score 5.5 Nice subject, but where's the woodland? Maybe it's behind the photographer's back. Placing the tree in the centre was not a good idea.
Fits the theme with an added element(water). Would like to have seen more of the tree and a little less of the water in the foreground. Tilt camera up more.

In 05 (above)
In 05 Score 4 I just can't see the woodland! The differential focussing was very well handled, but the two-tone background takes from it. Photographed from a higher angle or a lower angle, preferably the latter, would have resulted in a better picture. The image has too many components to be a success. Next time bring a scissors or secateurs.
Its not clear that this image represents the theme. the subject itself is interesting ,however its lacking a focal point and not sharp,

In 06 (above)
In 06 Score 4 This could be a roadside picture. No sign of woodland! The highlights in the bird's plumage are somewhat overexposed. Depth of field is very limited, but nothing wrong with that.
When i saw this image my first thought was pheasant in a field, so for me does not fit the theme. This image is quite pleasing but the sharpest point of focus has to be the eyes.

In 07 (above)
In 07 Score 3 I can't see what the photographer is trying to capture. Excellent colour saturation. Differential focussing did not work, as the foreground flower is most distracting.
Fits the woodlands theme. The bluebell in the foreground overpowers this image. The subject overall needs better focus and composition. Its a bit cluttered.

Advanced Catagory - (Woodland compeition)

Ad_01

Ad_01 Score 8 Lovely image. Well exposed and composed. Would have gone a small bit closer to the flowers. Cant find anything else wrong.
Lovely image the bridge and water really adds to it, but I would crop it just above that yellow flower I keep looking at it right in the centre.

Ad_02

Ad_02 Score 8 Like this one, nice lead in lines and the walker gives a sence of scale I think the tree on the right is slightly soft but this could be my monitor other than that , a lovely image.
Nice shot the person giving scale to the image, love the sky as well.

Ad_03
Ad_03 Score 7 Another lovely photo, Colour could be saturated a bit more I think otherwise a strong image.
Hope that wheelbarrow wasn't full of rubbish! Wonder if this wouldn't look better as a vertical, cutting out the trees on the right hand side, lot of empty space in the right hand corner.

Ad_04
Ad_04 Score 7 Nice exposure light is spot on between the trees and sky. The long exposure introduced some movement in the bluebells and the image seems a smal bit soft because of it, maybe a higher ISO with the same settings might give a faster shutter speed to counter this problem.
Very nice sky, but didn't like the blurred bluebells in the foreground.

Ad_05
Ad_05 Score 6 Nice idea for this shot but I think the Photoshop work is clearly seen and the tree is too central, a larger aperture would have meant less Photoshop work, sorry.
This was a no for me, the tree in the centre, and just the one bluebell looked out of place.
